Some Updates for the BDH

Well, I've been putting this post off for a bit in case we actually finished any of the projects I'm posting today...

But, like usual, things are taking longer than I planned.

Here's what's been going on in the Barbie Dream Home these days:

1) I GOT A NEW LAPTOPPP!  I bought it from my good friend Ellen.  I love it.  It's so fast, and functional, what with all of its keys and everything... I vow to never let Fenway chew on it.

2)  We bought a new dishwasher!  The first of our stainless appliances.  The plus side?  It actually cleans dishes!  Remarkable.

Please ignore my dirty rug. But go ahead and admire that beautiful cheesecake photo on the fridge... that's the gingersnap cherry cheesecake recipe I'm making for Thanksgiving!

3) I bought some chairs at a hole-in-the-wall thrift store in downtown Fredericksburg.  I got all four for $40!  Some paint and upholstery on these things, and they're going to look incredible in the dining room.

4) We've started painting the foyer.  Our original paint color inspiration was a Restoration Hardware color I can't quite remember, but we went with Martha Stewart's Garden Shed color instead.  I love it, though I wish it had a bit more of a khaki undertone rather than a gray.

Before:
die chandelier, die

Mr. D is so happy to stop painting for my photos :)

After:

We are so happy to get rid of the beige nastiness that the bank had painted the whole place.  They did a spectacularly crappy job, too, so we do a lot of sanding paint globs off the wall before we actually paint.  Very tedious indeed.  I'll be glad to let some professional handle the top of the foyer!

That's what we've been up to lately.  Mr. D's parents are coming for a visit this weekend, so it's going to be a busy one!  I don't know about you, but I'm ready for bed... it's been dark for three hours!  Daylight saving time totally kills my productivity.

  1. Uggghhh yea the bank painted our house like CRAP too and the walls were crazy uneven. We have to re-do it ALL. It's very frustrating.
