Barbie Dream Home- An Introduction

Mr. D and I began the househunting process in early January. Right now, we live about thirty minutes east of Washington D.C., and we thought it would be nice to stay in the area because we love our little suburb. And so househunting began, and our budget was low in an area with high, high prices. We viewed possibilities like "Cat Piss Basement House," and "So Much Ugly in One Tiny Kitchen House," all of which were townhomes at the tippy-tippy-top of our budget.

The only solution to this issue was to move further south. We started looking 30-45 minutes south of the city. And we found THE BARBIE DREAM HOME.

A brick-front, 4 bed, 2.5 bath colonial on .54 acres.  It was a foreclosure, which is the only reason we could afford it.

The foyer is great, and very open.  It just so happens to feature The World's Ugliest Chandelier, but that will one day be replaced.

The kitchen is nice and spacious, and I love the island, which I'm hoping to replace with a butcher block counter.  As you can see from the pictures, the tile is damaged, and the appliances are pretty old.  The picture on the bottom is the breakfast table area, which looks out into the giant backyard.

The living room is beautiful hardwood with a (hideous) gas fireplace.  I would love to redesign the fireplace, and maybe knock out those pesky columns in the foreground of the photo.

The dining room is my favorite room!  I love the windows.  I can't wait to refinish the china hutch my mom is so graciously giving me and display all my china.

Here's the landscaped side of the backyard.  To the right, there's a lot of open field and a swingset.

Here's the huge master bedroom.  That big black box on the left is a gas fireplace with an open shelf for a TV.  There are two closets and a vanity.

This is my Sex and the City closet.  I am actually going to paint it and convert on of the end walls into a built-in jewelry organizer.  We'll see how it goes.

And finally, here's the very awkward master bath.  To the right of the door, there's the toilet.  The very shallow tub and it's surrounding tile area take up most of the room, and the stall shower is on the left.

The guest bedrooms and guest bath are pretty basic.  There are so many updates and cosmetic changes I want to make to the house... but that will be many other posts for many other days...  I can't believe we have just over two weeks before we close on the BDH!  It's very exciting.

My plans for this snow day: work on the yearbook, vacuum the entire apartment, and try not to watch too much Bravo.
